Paul Roos beat Hilton 67-6, while there were also wins for Paarl Boys’, Monument, Helpmekaar, Affies and Nelspruit at the St John’s Easter Festival.
SA Schools flyhalf Damian Willemse scored 25 points as the team from Stellenbosch outplayed their KZN opponents to lead 22-3 at the break. Paul Roos then scored seven second-half tries to complete the rout.
Willemse converted fullback Joshua Vermeulen’s 11th-minute try for Paul Roos before scoring the first of his two tries. Replacement forward Corné Wium scored their second converted try before Willemse slotted a penalty to give his side a healthy lead at the break.
Hilton flyhalf Angus Curtis kicked his second penalty of the match early in the second half. But then the game turned into a try-fest as scrumhalf Gerado Jaars, winger David-Ley Moses, who scored a hat-trick, and replacement prop Tristan Leitch added their names to the Paul Roos scoresheet. Vermeulen and Willemse also scored their second tries.
In Thursday’s other matches, Paarl Boys’ thrashed a Lions Invitational side 54-0, Italian side Viadana also failed to score in their 47-0 defeat to Monument, St John’s Harare suffered a 36-10 loss to Helpmekaar, Affies beat Parktown Boys 47-7, and the festival hosts lost 21-5 to Nelspruit.
