Stellenberg will be up against it when they travel to Paarl Boys’ on Saturday.
Stellenberg will be looking to get their season back on track after successive losses to Garsfontein and Paul Roos, while trying to halt the Boishaai freight train.
Boishaai are on a 29-match winning streak, which stretches back to 2015. They began the 2016 season with a big 48-6 win away at Brandwag, before going on to whip a Lions Invitational XV 54-0 in their opening match at the St John’s Easter Festival. They finished the festival unbeaten with wins over Helpmekaar (24-17) and Nelspruit (17-11).
In their next match against Outeniqua they were pushed to the brink before securing a last-minute 29-27 win. They went on to beat Western Cape rivals Bishops (58-12) and Wynberg Boys’ (48-7) before extending their winning streak to 29 games with two wins at the Wilderklawer Super Schools Festival against Waterkloof (51-5) and the then unbeaten Affies (29-25). Fullback Gianni Lombard scored 55 of their 81 points at the festival, including 26 against Waterkloof and all 29 points against Affies.
Stellenberg have won six of their eight games this season. They started with a 25-16 win against Menlopark at the North-South tournament hosted at Garsfontein. They ended the tournament unbeaten with a 47-14 victory against Kempton Park, before winning their next home games against DF Malan (78-3), Primrose (78-5) and Bellville (26-20).
They continued their unbeaten run this season by beating Noord-Kaap 27-19 in their first game at the Wildeklawer Super Schools Festival, before their winning streak was ended with a 19-18 loss to Garsfontein in their final game at the festival. They lost their next game 34-8 at home to Paul Roos.
In other matches games to look forward to in the Western Cape, SACS will be confident ahead of hosting Rondebosch Boys’ this Saturday after beating Bishops 38-19 last weekend in the oldest schools rivalry in the country. Bosch are coming off a big defeat to Boland Landbou (48-15) last Saturday, but will take confidence from their unbeaten showing at the recent Wynberg Rugby Festival with wins over KES (38-12) and Windhoek High School (20-18). SACS were also unbeaten at Wynberg’s festival, beating Maritzburg College (27-20) and DF Malan (78-5).
Oakdale, who lost their first game of the season against Grey College at the Wildeklawer Festival, host Paul Roos, who have won eight of their 10 games this season, including two from two at Wildeklawer against HTS Middelburg (31-12) and Menlopark (32-5).
