Boland Landbou beat Kempton Park 69-10 in the North-South tournament, while there were also wins for Paarl Gym, Stellenberg and Garsfontein.
The Western Cape schools dominated day one of the annual tournament, held at Hoërskool Garsfontein this year, winning three out of four matches. Outeniqua fell 35-24 to the hosts in their encounter.
Boland Landbou, known traditionally for being powerful up front, showed against Kempton Park that they have serious firepower in their backline too this year. Winger Durin Nasson ran in four tries, courtesy of the space opened up by centres Henro Marais and JJ van Rensburg.
Paarl Gym’s flyhalf Wian van Zyl and centre Theo Boshoff took control of proceedings after the interval as they beat Waterkloof 35-10. Stellenberg rounded off a successful day for the Cape schools by beating Menlopark 36-33.
