The Blue Bulls beat KwaZulu-Natal 23-20 in the unofficial final of the U16 Grant Khomo Week at Paarl Gym.
KZN opened the scoring in the sixth minute when No 8 Celimpilo Gumede crossed the line, with scrumhalf Jaden Hendrikse adding the extras.
The Blue Bulls hit back almost immediately with a try from scrumhalf Jurich Claasens that was converted by flyhalf Regardt Roets.
Hendrikse and Roets then traded penalties as the Bulls took a 13-10 lead into half-time.
Roets kicked a third penalty early in the second half before converting flank Janco Uys’s try.
The Sharks hit back with a penalty from Hendrikse and a late converted try from wing Siyanda Cele, but the Bulls held on for the win.
Meanwhile, centre and captain Muzilikazi Manyike scored 14 points (two tries, two conversions) to help the Golden Lions to a 34-25 win against SWD, centre Stefan Smit scored 15 points (one try, two conversions, three penalties) as the Pumas beat the Leopards 33-14, and flyhalf Nivan Petersen kicked 15 points (six conversions, one penalty) to help Western Province beat Eastern Province 45-8.
