Graeme College beat Queen’s College 18-11 to claim their first win in 45 years in this fixture.
Queen’s have been one of the most consistent performers from the Eastern Cape, but on Saturday, Graeme rolled them over with a gritty display.
Last year, Queen’s clinched an emphatic 50-6 win when they hosted Graeme, but there would be no repeat in 2017.
Graeme started brightly and opened up a 10-point lead soon after the kick-off via a converted try and penalty.
Queen’s resiliently fought back with an unconverted try and penalty to make it a two-point game at the break, but Greame responded with their second try and a penalty to restore their 10-point buffer.
And while the visitors again reduced the deficit with a penalty, Graeme successfully defended their tryline in the last 10 minutes to come away with a rare victory against Queen’s.
