Hilton hope to spoil Maritzburg’s special day

Maritzburg will welcome Hilton to Goldstone’s for their annual Reunion Day on Saturday, writes MARIETTE ADAMS.

Reunion Day is always a special occasion for Maritzburg, as their old boys return to the school, and Hilton have the privilege of taking part in the 2016 edition. While various sporting contests will take place between the schools, it will all culminate in a feisty clash between the 1st XV rugby teams at Maritzburg’s prestigious main field.

The hosts have won six of their last 10 matches, including wins over KZN rivals Westville (27-16) and DHS (26-19) in the past fortnight. However, they did suffer defeats against Kearsney (31-14), SACS (27-20) and Grey College (60-13), and drew with KES (32-32).

Hilton lost their last match against Kearsney (20-8), but had won their previous eight.

Hilton will be looking to expose Maritzburg’s defensive frailties on Saturday. The hosts have conceded 257 points in their last 10 games and will need to step up against Hilton’s superior attack.

In other KZN derbies, Glenwood will look to bounce back from their 40-15 loss to Monument, which ended their 13-match winning streak, when they travel to Westville, who beat Michaelhouse 20-3 last weekend.

House will welcome DHS, with both sides coming off defeats.
