Kearsney claimed a 20-8 victory over Hilton in Botha’s Hill on Saturday, writes MARIETTE ADAMS.
The biggest derby in KwaZulu-Natal failed to live up to its billing, becoming a one-sided contest thanks to Kearsney’s dominant second-half display.
The rivals were deadlocked at 3-3 going into the break and although Hilton scored an unconverted try soon after the restart, Kearsney were in ominous form.
Fullback James Sutherland slotted a second penalty to narrow the deficit to 8-6, before the hosts ran in two late tries to take the lead. Sutherland was successful with both conversions to make it an emphatic win for Kearsney.
Elsewhere in KZN, Westville hammered Michaelhouse 20-3, Maritzburg beat Durban High 26-19, George Campbell lost 31-22 against Clifton and Northwood defeated St Charles 22-14.
