Kearsney will be looking to avenge their defeat at Hilton earlier this season when they host the return fixture on Saturday. MARIETTE ADAMS reports.
Both sides are in excellent form, but Hilton are on a longer winning run. Since losing to Paul Roos on day two of the St John’s Easter Festival, the Hiltonians have racked up eight straight victories, including wins over Kearsney (31-23), Westville (25-12) and Michaelhouse (10-8).
Since the start of May, there has been an upswing in Kearsney’s form, culminating in comprehensive victories over Michaelhouse (64-22), Northwood (45-23), Maritzburg (31-14) and St Stithians (80-5).
When these sides met in April, hosts Hilton came back from 16-6 down to win 31-23. Kearsney dominated possession, but a lack of discipline at crucial stages was punished by sharpshooter Angus Curtis, who kept Hilton in the game with a host of penalty goals.
Kearsney will have to improve their discipline on Saturday to avoid back-to-back losses to Hilton.
In other KZN matches this weekend, Westville will be gunning for just their second win of the year when they welcome Michaelhouse, Maritzburg face a daunting task against Durban High, Northwood take on St Charles and Clifton host George Campbell.
