Kearsney beat Noord-Kaap 57-10, while there were also wins for Selborne, Glenwood, Dale and SACS at the Kearsney Easter Festival on Thursday.
The festival hosts dominated the opening match, taking a 24-10 lead into half-time. Kearsney more than doubled their score in the second half, scoring five unanswered tries.
Flanker Dylan Richardson opened the scoring after just six minutes and fullback James Sutherland converted the try. Two more tries from prop and captain Greg van Noordwyk and flank Luke Croshaw gave Kearsney a 24-3 lead.
Noord-Kaap pulled seven points back just before the break via a try from centre Ruan Schults that Cameron Hufke converted.
Noord-Kaap failed to add to their tally in the second half as five tries from scrumhalf Warren Driver, wing Matthew Watts, Sutherland and winger Matthew Blair gave the hosts a commanding win to open their Easter Festival.
In Thursday’s other matches, Selborne held on to beat HTS Middelburg 22-14 after leading 15-0 at half-time, Glenwood secured a 14-13 win over EG Jansen, Dale College handed festival debutants Maritzburg a 25-16 defeat, and SACS scored a late try to beat Framesby 19-13.
