Flyhalf Reece Wynne starred as the Limpopo Blue Bulls beat Border 59-41 at the U18 Craven Week on Wednesday.
The flyhalf produced a Man of the Match performance, scoring 14 points with the boot and having a hand in several tries.
Border flyhalf David Coetzee opened the scoring with a penalty, but Limpopo hit back with two well-taken tries.
First, Wynne threw a show and go, broke the defensive line and sent outside centre Vincent Roos away. A few minutes later, Roos broke the line, brushed off two would-be tacklers, and handed off another before being tackled. Quick ball then resulted in left wing Noko Malatji powering over under the poles.
Limpopo’s third try came from a Border mistake, with Malatji putting fullback Ali Sefole into acres of space.
Border finally got a try when tighthead prop Cameron Moody charged down a kick and put Siphamandla Matsinya away for a try. The outside centre was on hand to score again a minute later when Border swung the ball wide.
A few offloads off the ground, quick ball and physical dominance in the collisions saw Limpopo score again through right wing Kamogelo Matloa to make it 28-13.
Border responded when Matsinya picked up the loose ball and raced away to score his hat-trick try after just 23 minutes.
But Limpopo would take a 35-20 lead into the break after Matloa beat three men on his way to scoring his second try.
Roos scored the opening try of the second half after Wynne had burst through another gap, thrown a dummy and found his outside centre.
Limpopo loosehead prop Nyiko Ntlemo scored a try after a brilliant break from Philip Apea-Adu, who was tackled just before the line.
Border fullback Jason Raubenheimer then found some space, and used good footwork to speed away for his side’s fourth try.
Limpopo hit back immediately when Wynne put scrumhalf Renier Gerber away, before flanker Marko Benade, Gerber and Matloa combined for a superb long-distance try.
Border would score two consolation tries through Raubenheimer, who grabbed his second, and replacement Jarred du Plessis, who stepped past three defenders.
