Western Province beat Free State 37-22 on day two of the U16 Grant Khomo Week at Grey College in Bloemfontein.
WP led 27-7 in the second half, before two tries from the hosts narrowed the gap to eight points. But Province finished strongly with a late try and penalty goal to secure the win.
In other notable matches, SWD survived a late fightback from Border to win 32-27, with flyhalf Jaylen James scoring two of his team’s four tries and kicking three conversions and two penalty goals for a personal tally of 22 points.
The Free State XV outplayed the Pumas 48-24, and Boland pipped the Limpopo Blue Bulls 25-22 thanks to the accurate goal-kicking of flyhalf Nathan Engelbrecht.
KwaZulu-Natal scored six tries to beat Namibia 46-13, while restricting their opponents to just two.
The above results ensured that the winners are the only unbeaten sides in the tournament going into Friday’s final round.
Meanwhile, a late try by the Golden Lions secured a 29-29 draw against the Blue Bulls. The Lions had a chance to win the match, but were unsuccessful with the conversion and a subsequent penalty goal.
