Boland Landbou fired late to beat SACS 28-18 at Paardeberg Sports Field, while there were also wins for Paarl Boys’, Wynberg, Rondebosch and Oakdale.
The 10-point difference is not a true reflection of what transpired in Paarl. SACS ran their hosts close, with the lead switching hands several times, but a late surge saw Landbou score two tries to clinch the victory.
SACS went into the break 7-6 down, but drew first blood after the restart when No 8 Alex Halvorsen crossed for their first try.
The visitors would score another try, this time converted, but Landbouskool cracked their defensive code on three occasions in the second half and wing Duren Hoffman was on hand to add all the conversions.
Elsewhere in the Western Cape, Paarl Boys’ High smashed Bishops 58-12 to stretch their unbeaten run to 26 matches. A supreme team performance saw South Africa’s No 1 schools team run eight tries past Bishops, but the day belonged to Gianni Lombaard. The fullback bagged 28 of his team’s points via two tries, six conversions and two penalty goals.
In other matches, Wynberg defeated Tygerberg 29-7, Rondebosch thumped De Kuilen 35-5, Stellenberg hammered Primrose RFC 78-5, Oakdale beat Drostdy 26-13, Brackenfell eased past Bellville 19-7, Hoërskool Punt shocked Worcester Gimnasium 10-3, Swellendam suffered a 27-0 defeat against Bonnievale, Hoërskool Goudini ousted Hoërskool Montana 57-25, Langenhoven lost 21-7 to Hoërskool Swartland and Hopefield snatched a 15-14 win over Porterville.
