Visitors SACS were outstanding in beating rivals Rondebosch Boys’ 28-10 on Saturday, reports OLLIE KEOHANE.
Rondebosch forced a last-minute 28-28 draw at SACS earlier in the season but there would be no similar result at home as SACS dominated with two early scores and never surrendered the lead.
The winners scored four tries to one and proved equally good defensively by keeping Rondebosch tryless when down to 14 players.
SACS hooker and provincial star player Liam Larkam was again inspirational, but to single out just one player would be unfair. SACS played as a team whereas a week ago, when beaten by Bishops, they played like individuals.
SACS, who were surprisingly beaten 43-28 at Bishops a week ago, responded with a performance more consistent with a season in which they came within a score of beating Paarl Gym and Paul Roos and also trailed the country’s best, Paarl Boys’, 14-13 with seven minutes to play.
The physicality that characterised the Paarl Boys’ performance was again on display against Rondebosch, who traditionally are considered the most physical of the southern suburbs teams.
SACS this season have beaten Bishops and Wynberg at home, drawn with Bosch, lost to Bishops away and beaten Bosch.
The victors complete their season next weekend with the Classic Clashes derby against Wynberg Boys’, while Rondebosch plays their biggest rival and neighbours Bishops.
