A 16-year-old Alexandra High pupil passed away on Wednesday night after he collapsed during rugby practice.
The teenager collapsed on the school’s sports field on Wednesday afternoon and paramedics responded immediately after an emergency call was lodged.
ER24 spokesperson Annine Dormehl confirmed the incident, saying nothing more could be done to save the boy’s life.
‘Paramedics had performed CPR on the patient and he was placed on a ventilator before being transported to Mediclinic in Pietermaritzburg.
‘Doctors continued resuscitating the patient at the hospital, but unfortunately nothing could be done and the patient was declared dead just before 18:00.’
