Four of last year’s top-five ranked schools will be at St John’s College.
St John’s will be hosting their 21st Easter festival this year. The festival features both local and international teams. Last year’s top-ranked school in South Africa, Paarl Boys’, and Cape rivals Paul Roos return to the festival this year as they have done for the past decade.
THIS YEAR’S PARTICIPANTS
Four of the country’s top-five ranked schools from 2015 will participate in this year’s festival. St John’s from Harare return after missing out last year, while Italian club Viadana return for their second year. Parktown Boys’, Nelspruit, Monument, a Lions Invitational XV and Kearsney make up the remainder of participating teams.
MATCHES TO WATCH
Paarl Boys’, who were unbeaten in 2015, take on a Lions Invitational side in the first match of the festival. On day two Paul Roos, ranked third in South Africa last year, will face Monument, who were ranked fifth. On day three, Paul Roos face off against Affies, another top-five finisher from last year.
HE SAID IT
‘The ethos of the festival is to bring schools together, exposing them to a high level of rugby and to play against schools they wouldn’t normally play against. It’s about interacting with each other and experiencing what it would be like playing at the top level both on and off the field. We’re fortunate to have top schools playing at the festival. We’ve got a good relationship with Paarl Boys’ and Paul Roos and we’re grateful to them for making the trip every year.‘ – St John’s master of rugby Adrian Norris
