SARugbymag.co.za chats to Paul Roos 1st XV coach Stephan Jordaan about the upcoming season.
How have you prepared for the 2016 season?
We started our pre-season training in October and have played warm-up matches against Swartland High School and Pyerredon from Argentina.
What lessons did you learn from last season?
That you have to take it one game at a time, plan well, keep working hard, and improve and adapt.
What are your goals for the team this year?
We would like to build on the team’s performance from last year. We would like to play a competitive brand of rugby that is expected from the Paul Roos community.
How many players from last year’s 1st XV will play again this year?
Three, fullback Joshua Vermeulen, flyhalf Damian Willemse and scrumhalf Tiaan Coetzee.
Who will be your key players?
Joshua and Damian. Both were selected for Craven Week last year as well as SA Schools.
What will be your biggest game of the season?
We have a tough game every weekend! We play some really good teams in the Western Cape, as well as those at the St John’s College Festival and the Wildeklawer Super Schools tournament. But the biggest game of the year for a Paul Roos player is the one against Grey College, who we play in Bloemfontein in August.
