Scrumhalf Akha Mjawule and centre Aya Machul, both from the Connect Sports Academy, have been awarded scholarships to attend SACS from 2018.
Connect Sports is a non-profit high performance academy working directly with disadvantaged communities, with over 100 participants benefiting weekly from coaches’ training sessions in Khayelitsha, as well as tutoring sessions aimed at boosting their academics alongside sport.
Mjawule and Machul (both 13) are currently in grade seven and play their rugby at Busy Bee RFC in Langa.
Akha, a flanker turned scrumhalf, who has represented Western Province at U12 and U13 level, has been awarded the Buntu Majalaza scholarship.
Machul, who is currently attending trials for the WP U13 Craven Week side, has received the Headmaster’s scholarship.
The pair will start school at SACS in January next year and will live at the hostel facility.
