Paarl Boys’ 43-match winning streak ended with a 38-36 defeat to Christchurch Boys’ High in New Zealand.
The No 1-ranked school in South Africa travelled to New Zealand for a five-match tour, and while they easily negotiated the four first games, they fell short in the last one.
In the lead-up to the clash against the top-ranked Kiwi school, Boishaai recorded wins over Sacred Heart College, Gisborne Boys’ High, a Porirua XV and Nelson College.
On Friday they faced Christchurch in an epic encounter. The hosts raced out to a 28-5 lead at half-time, which they extended to 35-10 shortly after the break.
But Boishaai’s star quality came through thereafter as they launched a comeback to take a 36-35 lead. However, they conceded a penalty in the dying seconds and Christchurch converted it into three match-winning points.
