Helpmekaar scored a try in stoppage time to beat Garsfontein 23-22 in Pretoria on Saturday.
In a highly competitive match that served as preparation for their respective Beeld Trophy quarter-finals next week, Helpies ultimately prevailed to complete the double over Garsies in 2016.
Garsfontein, who welcomed back a host of their Craven Week stars, scored three tries through wings Thiaan Thysse and Henk de Leeuw and prop CJ Steinhobel, with Blue Bulls U18 fullback Abner van Reenen kicking two conversions and penalty.
Leading 22-18 with time up, Garsies probably thought they had done enough to avenge their loss in this fixture earlier this season, but Helpmekaar turned the pressure back on the hosts by keeping the ball alive with a 10-phase attack and the long sequence of defending eventually took its toll as Garsies conceded the try and the match.
Garsfontein – Tries: Thiaan Thysse, Henk de Leeuw, CJ Steinhobel. Conversions: Abner van Reenen (2). Penalty: Van Reenen.
Helpmekaar – Tries: Sherman Rayners, Mark Snyman, Tiaan Scholtz. Converion: Chuiner van Rooten. Penalties: Van Rooyen (2).
