Lions centre Wandisile Simelane starred for the Golden Lions against SWD on Tuesday, writes TYRONE ENGEL.
Simelane scored 29 points in his side’s 59-26 win, via three tries and seven conversions.
The Jeppe centre, playing in his second Craven Week tournament, was influential in the midfield as the Lions ripped open the SWD defence to run in nine tries.
‘I feel very blessed,’ Simelane said. ‘Our main goal was to win our first game and I’m really proud of the team. Being named Man of the Match and Hero of the Day really means a lot to me.
‘It felt awesome going over for my third try, but it was only after the game that I reflected on the input I had made.
‘As a team we were pretty excited and anxious for the game having watched all the games on day one,’ Simelane continued. ‘So the boys were ready to come out and play today. The team has a tight bond and we all get along really well, and I think that helped us pull off the win today.’
