Rondebosch Boys’ will be up against it when they host Paarl Gym on Saturday, writes TYRONE ENGEL.
Paarl Gym have lost just one game out of 11 this season: 15-13 to hosts Garsfontein at the North-South tournament. They won their first game at the tournament against Waterkloof 35-10, after a big win in their opening game of the season against Drostdy (52-0) at their own rugby day.
Since the loss to Garsies, Gimmies have put together an eight-match winning streak, picking up victories at home against Boland Landbou (34-14), Paul Roos (28-24) and SACS (17-13), before beating Menlopark (45-11) and EG Jansen (38-22) at the Wildeklawer Super Schools Festival. They then won away from home against Wynberg Boys’ (71-11) and Brackenfell (38-24), before thumping Bishops 45-10 at home last Saturday.
Rondebosch started their season with a successful tour to Ireland in March, picking up four wins from four games. They then beat Cape rivals Wynberg Boys’ 29-8 at home.
They picked up five wins from their next eight games, including victories against De Kuilen (35-5) away from home, and KES (38-12) and Windhoek (20-18) at the Wynberg Rugby Festival, after losing 43-6 to Paul Roos in Stellenbosch the week before.
Rondebosch suffered two defeats away from home against Paul Roos (43-6) and Boland Landbou (48-15), and settled for a 28-28 draw against SACS. They bounced back to pick up two wins from their last two games against Bellville (19-6) at home and Strand (29-9) away from home last Saturday.
In other games to look forward to in the Western Cape this weekend, Oakdale will be up against it as they travel to top-ranked Paarl Boys’, who are currently on a 32-game winning streak, while Bishops host rivals Wynberg Boys’. SACS will face a tough task in Stellenbosch against Paul Roos, who will be looking to bounce back from their 28-3 defeat to Boishaai last Saturday.
